There are still 9 millions Indonesians people that are illiterate and 5 millions of them are women. As good students we can help them by teaching them how to read , write, and calculate. By doing all of those activity, it means that we already participate in supporting government to decrease illiteracy in Indonesia. We also take a role in educating the children that will be Indonesia's future leaders.

1000 Each Day

Rp 1000,00 is probably worthless for us. We usually use it to park our cars or buy cheap snack. But, do you know how valuable it is for unfortunate and penniless people? That is one of the thing that we can do as a student to help those who in need. Imagine how much we can give if we accumulate 1 class which is included 35 students, and there are 3 grades in school and each grade is included 9 class. So 1000x35(student)x9(class/grade)x3(grade) = Rp 945.000,00. But if we accumulate it in 1 month it can be 945000x30 = Rp28.350.000,00 and how many people that we can help if we give 1000 each day in school? So, let’s do it from now on to collect money each day to give it to the fortuneless.

Youth's Role

Actually the government has several programs to reduce poverty. The government has focused to reduce the poverty since 2008, one of the programs are:

• Stabilize main needs.
• Improve the growth that stands for unfortunate people
• Increase the access of the people to the social service (ex: puskesmas)
• Increase the social protection system
• Facilitate a good infrastructure
• Free school (Wajib Belajar 9 tahun)
• Give a scholarship program to the poor student

Those programs are good to be implemented, but it’s not too effective and doesn't show a significant result in reducing the poverty. Not only the problems that come from its program but also we need a long period to see a significant result. Poverty is a thing that cannot be separated with government’s developing programs, but those programs should be supported by all society components in Indonesia, including Indonesian Youth. Youth have a big role and influencial as the next generation of the country. We don’t need to start it from a big thing, every little continuous step can be a big thing that give a big affect to reduce the poverty and increase the prosperity.

Imagine it as an orchestra, it won’t create a beautiful music and melody without the harmony of all the music instruments. Express your thoughts and innovations a a youth!
We can make a better and wealthier Indonesia, start from YOU!

If there is a role from every side that has a real commitment, we believe this things will be visible soon. Youth with great potential is a big capital of the life quality improvements in the future.

Poverty In Indonesia

Poverty in Indonesia is a widespread issue though in recent years the official numbers show a declining trend. Due to the dense rural nature of parts of the Java, Bali, Lombok, and parts of Sumatra, poverty can be classified into rural and urban poverty. Urban poverty is prevalent in not only in Jabotabek, but also in Medan and Surabaya. As a sprawling archipelago, poverty characteristics and implications vary widely from island to island and culture to culture. There a multitude of mutually unintelligible languages in Indonesia. Papua has serious poverty issues of its own due to economic, cultural, linguistic and physical isolation which set it apart from the rest of Indonesia.

In February 1999, as much as 47.97 million people were classified as poor, representing 23.43% of the nation's population. However, this figure must take into account the slide of the rupiah in the Asian financial crisis. By July 2005, that number had been reduced to 35.10 million, representing 15.97% of the total population. Latest available figures, March 2007, show that 37.17 million people are under the poverty line representing 16.58% of the entire population. While the total number of people officially classified as poor in Indonesia is less than that of the officially classified poor in the United States with 39.1 million, the measures are calculated differently and problems with methodology exist in both nations.

It’s kinda ironic knowing that Indonesia, such a rich country in its nature resources, can undergo a poverty. And what can we do to overcome this problem?
No need to wait for government to take action. We can start from ourselves, do a good deeds, and influence our surroundings. Though we still young, we can make a big change. In this blog, we will show you some examples of good deeds. Watch, learn, and apply this in your daily life!
